Weighting Factors: “Velocity” rating
These sliding scales adjusts the weighted handicapping algorithm. By increasing
the value of any factor (hold the left mouse key down while you slide the scale),
that criteria has a higher weighted value in the overall total points. This scale
adjusts the “Velocity” rating.
The algorithm associated with this weighting factor first calculates the actual velocity
(ft/sec) for the following (also adjusted for track variants):
Sprint: Route:
1st call = velocity from start to 2f 1st call = velocity from start to 4f
2nd call = velocity from 2f to 4f 2nd call = velocity from 4f to 6f
3rd call = velocity from 4f to finish 3rd call = velocity from 6f to finish
EP = average of 1st and 2nd call Early Pace
SP = average EP and 3rd call Sustained Pace
AP = average of all 3 calls (sprint) Average Pace
AP = EP & SP (route)
FX = average 1st and 3rd call (sprint only)
ALGORITHM used for velocity
Route:
(EP * 2) + (SP * 2) + (AP * 3 ) / 7
Sprint:
(EP * 2) + (FX * 3) + (AP * 3 ) / 7
Velocity = (Last Velocity + (BestVelocity – Last Velocity)
Note: The Velocity rating looks at the last 3 races, so the # of races = 1, 2 or 3
depending upon the # of races horse ran. If the horse is a first time starter
or has no data then the Velocity rating will be zero
